[Virtual] Satire Writing w/ Brandon Follick [January-February] (Tuesdays)

Humor & Satire Writing is for anyone eager to write for online publications or refine their craft, regardless of where they are in their writing journey. This 5-week class blends lecture, workshop, in-class exercises, and discussion, fostering an inclusive space for beginners, seasoned writers, and everyone in between—not just comedians.
We’ll break down the building blocks of impactful humor, analyze what makes a piece of writing so memorable, and practice editing to improve your work. This course reframes the pressure of creating and revising so it feels less daunting and more empowering, encouraging you to write jokes with originality, revise with sustained confidence, and build your author brand.
By the end, you will generate headlines to pitch/apply as a contributor, draft long-form humor pieces for submission, and jumpstart on independent projects.
This class guides you through the writing, revising, and creating process—and it's where your humor journey truly takes off!
5-Week Class: Mondays, 7:00 - 10:00 PM EST, January 7th - February 4th. 2025
Note: Class may end between 9:30PM - 10:00 PM depending on the number of enrollments.

Bio:
Brandon Follick is a New York-based actor, writer, and standup comedian. He has written for The Onion, The New Yorker, Reductress, and McSweeney's, and his first print writing credits appear in How To Stay Productive When the World is Ending, named one of Vulture’s Best Comedy Books of 2023. He has been featured in New York Magazine, Guardian, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Overheard NY, Buzzfeed, Betches, Distractify and more. He is a writer and correspondent for Late Stage Live!, featured in Them, Jezebel, and Teen Vogue. He has performed standup and sketch in national and international comedy festivals, including New York Comedy Fest, Edinburgh Fringe, and Philly SketchFest. He is an Associate Director for the Diverse As Fuck x The Onion writing workshop series, a finalist for the 2024 Yes And Laughter Lab, and hosts the live comedy show Ryze & Shyne with Edson Montenegro.
