“Love is Blind” Academic Conference
On Valentine's Day Eve 2020, streaming service Netflix premiered its new reality dating show "Love is Blind." Designed to investigate the query, "Is love blind?" the non-double-blind experiment put contestants into ponds to find love. In this urgent academic conference, we'll evaluate the TV program as a product of culture moment and a culture maker in its own right. Through papers and panels by cultural scholars, the piece will be interrogated through a variety of academic approaches (feminist, Marxist, queer theory, etc.
Current scholars include Chris Murphy, Zach Schiffman, Mary Houlihan, Chelsea Devatez and more to be announced.
